Prevention Presentations

How great would it be if we could stop child abuse before it happened? That’s why at the Johnson County Children’s Advocacy Center we offer a series of free educational presentations to the Johnson County community. We hope by providing education to our community, we can help end child abuse.

Child Safety Matters

Child Safety Matters is a small-group presentation designed for students in grades K–5. This interactive program covers essential topics including:
  • General safety awareness
  • The 4 types of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect)
  • Bullying and cyberbullying
  • Digital safety and digital citizenship
Mission: To empower children with the knowledge and skills to recognize unsafe situations, understand their rights, and know how to seek help from trusted adults.

Teen Safety Matters

Teen Safety Matters is a small-group presentation designed for students in grades 6–12. This program provides age-appropriate, interactive education on critical safety topics, including:
  • Digital safety
  • Cyberbullying
  • Sexting and online exploitation
  • The 4 types of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect)
  • Relationship abuse
  • Sexual assault
  • Exploitation and sex trafficking
Mission: To equip teens with the tools to recognize red flags, build healthy boundaries, and know how to get help when faced with unsafe or harmful situations.

Recognizing and Reporting Abuse

This 30-minute presentation is designed to equip adults in the community with the tools to recognize, report, and prevent child abuse and neglect. Hosted at any community entity—such as schools, churches, nonprofits, or local organizations—this training provides essential information on identifying the signs of abuse, understanding mandatory reporting laws, and implementing prevention strategies. Whether you’re a parent, educator, volunteer, or concerned citizen, this session empowers you to help keep children safe and supported in your community.
Mission: To educate and empower adults to recognize, report, and prevent child abuse and neglect in their communities.

Online Safety

This training can be tailored to fit your needs and hosted at any location. It is designed for parents who want to learn how to keep their children safe online and stay informed about current digital trends and risks. Participants will gain practical tools and insights to better understand the online world their children navigate every day.
Mission: To empower parents with the knowledge and tools to protect their children in today’s digital world.

Gun Safety

This 30-minute training is designed for parents who want to learn how to properly store firearms, understand the importance of secure storage, and know what their children should be taught about gun safety. The presentation can be hosted at any location and tailored to fit the needs of your group or organization. Participants will leave with practical knowledge and resources to help create a safer environment for their families.
Mission: To educate and equip parents with the tools to promote safe and responsible firearm storage in homes and communities.

Poison Prevention

This 30-minute training is designed for parents who want to learn about safe medication dosing, proper storage of medications and poisonous substances, and safe disposal practices. The presentation can be hosted at any location and tailored to meet the needs of your group. Participants will gain practical knowledge to help prevent accidental poisoning and keep their homes safer for children.
Mission: To empower parents with the knowledge to safely manage and store medications and hazardous substances in the home.

Lifeguard Your Child

This 30-minute presentation can be hosted anywhere and is designed for parents who want to learn how to plan ahead and stay alert to help keep children safe around water and reduce the risk of drowning. The training covers practical tips, supervision strategies, and key safety measures for pools, lakes, bathtubs, and other water environments.
Mission: To educate parents on proactive water safety practices that protect children and prevent drowning.
